The new “Wood Routes” project did not come out of the blue.
Back in 1998, the political authorities of Libin, Vielsalm, Saint-Vith and Bütgenbach decided to participate, alongside Valbois, in a pilot operation intended to create, in their respective municipalities, the first tours of the Wood Route in Wallonia.
Keen on extending this mobilisation throughout the Walloon Region, and aware of the need to get things moving, Valbois RN, capitalising on the experiment conducted by these municipalities, decided to upgrade this concept and apply it through new, original themes by asking people to compose themselves their Wood Routes according to their whims and wishes….
This new project is now part and parcel of the European programmes Interreg IIIA «Eurowood» (2003) and Interreg IIIB ENO «Proholz-Probois» (2004), with the support of the General Office of Tourism in Wallonia, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Sustainable Development of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Thanks are in order for these 4 municipalities, as they were the first to initiate this project which has now grown to comprise many new features just begging to be discovered now!
